I have to admit that I don’t use instagram, and to be honest, I’m not much of a social media fanatic. But I find it surprising that rates are lower, because when I check my facebook status, it seems like more of the pictures that people are posting are coming from their instagram accounts, then from their online photo albums.
It doesn’t surprise me that marketers have moved their ads to instagram; in fact, I think it’s only logical that they do. After all, you advertise where there is a big market, and once it showed that instagram provided that, then it became a goal for advertisers.
According to the article, we are losing followers and interaction rates are in a steady decline. This is unsettling because if the system use dwindles so much that it doesn’t pay to run anymore, those marketers lose a lot of money. It’s a bit of a double-edged sword, the efforts used to make more money, advertising, is what is making the system inadvertently lose money.
